Michel Gervais is an “academic” who taught theology and philosophy at Université Laval before joining the ranks of the university’s management staff. Appointed vice-provost, academics and research in 1982, he was re-elected as provost in 1987. Over the course of his 10-year mandate, which saw the university make significant strides on all fronts, his peers selected him to head the Conférence des recteurs du Québec, Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada, Association internationale des universités francophones (AUF), and World University Service of Canada (WUSC). He has received honorary doctorates from McGill University, Bishop’s University, University of Manitoba and Université de Montréal.
Following his mandate at Université Laval, Michel headed the Hôpital psychiatrique de Québec, which he restructured under the name “Institut universitaire en santé mentale de Québec.” The Institute’s research centre has gone on to become the third largest neuroscience and mental health research facility in Canada.
Michel has chaired or been a member of some 40 boards of directors in both the public and private sector on a local, national and international level. From Saint Joseph University in Beirut and the Association des grands brûlés - F.L.A.M. in Quebec City to the Québec Metro High-Tech Park, Collège de Lévis and Industrial Alliance, he has conducted or taken part in numerous fundraising campaigns, all of which have surpassed their objective.
Now retired, Michel is enthusiastically applying his expertise to help the BNP Performance team reach new heights.
